STUDENT’S WEEK (CULTURAL DAY CELEBRATION)

The Student’s week of Western Delta University was held recently. The occasion included a Cultural Day celebration on June 1st, 2023. The event featured Edo, Igbo, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo and Yoruba cultural displays.

The Mayor of the University in his opening remarks, extended a warm welcome to all in attendance. He titled this year’s event: Our Culture – Our Heritage. He informed everyone that the event will remind us of our cultural heritage and roots.

While presenting his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Augustine Ikelegbe hinted that he was happy that the students are connected to their culture, that they can dress, dance and express themselves in their respective culture. He said it is an occasion for all to loosen up, relax, unwind and take a break from studies. Nigeria, he opined is a diverse nation, with different culture, language and ethnic groups. He commended the leaders of the various ethnic groups and organizers of the event.

Each cultural group entertained the audience with breath taking dances and presentations. There was group photographs of the various cultural groups with the management of the institution.
