Dr Bright Esegbuyota IGERE is currently the Ag Head, Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Western Delta University Oghara, Nigeria. He holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Fort Hare and, an MSc (Microbial Genetics and Medical Bacteriology) and BTech (Honours; Biotechnology and Genetics) respectively from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria. He joined the services of Western Delta University, Oghara as a Technologist II and rose to become Chief Technologist before joining the teaching cadre as Assistant Lecturer on 1st August 2013. Dr Bright has been involved in the teaching and supervision of students in both the undergraduate in Nigeria and postgraduate programmes in South Africa. Dr Igere BE likewise hold other certificates in Forensic Science studies, Bioinformatics, Bioentrepreneurship, Biotechnology and Molecular biology and Laboratory safety techniques from notable institutions. Dr Bright has numerous academic publications (38) in reputable journals to his credit and is a member of many academic and professional bodies which include: America Society of Microbiology (Global Outreach) ASM-200000497, 2019 to date; Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) 2019; South African Society of Microbiology (SASM) 2018; South African Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SASBMB) 2018; Nigeria Society of Microbiology (NSM) 2013; Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN) 2005 to date etc. He is involved in consultancy services in Human Genetic/forensic studies and has served as resource person to conferences, seminars and workshops. He has at different occasions served as a Leader and member of various research teams (Biotechnology and Emerging Environmental Infections Pathogens Research Group (BEEIPREG), Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, Nigeria.). He’s been recognised with prestigious awards as emerging/young scientists in Nigerian Scientist. His research focuses on Human Forensic Sciences, Human genetics, molecular epidemiology, Microbial genetics, source tracking of exogenous nucleic acids/gene ecology, bio-molecules of added value, disease and antibiotic resistance determinants and natural product chemistry thematic areas. Dr Bright has enjoyed immense funding support from the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), Govan Mbeki Research and Development Centre and Western Delta University Academic funds. Some of His active research collaborations are with the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), Govan Mbeki Research and Development Centre, University of Fort Hare South Africa, Lahor Research Laboratories and Medical Centre, Nigeria. He is currently working on source tracking of exogenous nucleic acids from the environmental nexus especially as it relates to the ongoing scourge of COVID-19 in the country. Conclusively, Dr Bright is blessed with a beautiful and an amiable wife. Her love and support gives him ambient psychological balance for optimum work performance.
